Game Republic, along with industry website GamesIndustry.biz, was the organiser of the Investment Summit at EGX on 21st September – a yearly event that brings games developers and investors (basically any publisher, platform-holder, fund, media company, VC, angel or trust that invests in games) together for talks, a panel and formal meetings.
The event at the EGX games expo at the NEC in Birmingham, featured talks by UK Games Fund (who run the government’s £4m funding scheme), consultant Ella Romanos, Mercia Technologies (prominent VC that invested recently in nDreams) and new film/TV/games funder Catalyst Interactive. The panel also included Miniclip and games publisher Green Man Gaming – and the morning of talks was featured in news stories on GamesIndustry.biz.
As well as the talks and networking, the Investment Summit featured formal meetings between investors and games developers – and this year the event had more than 150 meetings between games companies – some of them from our region – meeting investors such as Sony XDev Europe, Nintendo, SEGA, UK Games Fund, Microsoft ID@Xbox, Amazon Appstore, Rising Star Games and Good Shepherd Entertainment.
In previous years these meetings have resulted in funding for developers such as Bulkhead Interactive (Battalion 1944) and Mad Fellows (Aaero). Most of these publishers and investors will be appearing at Game Republic events over the next few months and throughout 2018.
The EGX event was also packed with our games developer members from Yorkshire and the North including Team17, Laser Dog Games, SigTrap, Shuttershade Studios, BetaJester, Red Kite Games, Boneloaf, Fierce Kaiju and more, plus our educational partners including the University of Leeds and projects from Creative England GamesLab Leeds. The Investment Summit will be back next year – we’ll keep you posted!
