New Roundtable on IP Law and Open Source Cheat Codes

Legal expert Aaron Trebble from Lewis Silkin will be hosting a 20 minute roundtable session entitled IP law and open source cheat codes followed by “AMA – I’m an IP lawyer!” at GaMaYo on 23rd May at Tileyard North. The roundtables are a new addition to this year’s GaMaYo that will run from 5pm to 6pm with each session lasting just 20 minutes. The roundtables will be open to all attendees of GaMaYo and will take place before the game demos go live at 6pm.

Co-Director of Game Republic Jackie Mulligan said “The roundtables will help support developers and studios to access free advice and support about their own game developments and ambitions.  So far we have announced two roundtables (out of the ten) including one from ID@Xbox and we will be announcing more over the coming weeks in the run-up to the event. We are so pleased to have such expertise available to the network.”

IP Rights and Open Source Software

Hosted by Aaron Trebble, the roundtable will be a practical run through of the main IP rights available to help you to protect and commercialise your games, and the IP issues involved with open source software. Lewis Silkin’s Aaron Trebble and Laura Harper will focus on some key points of interest – so there should be something for everyone, even if you have dealt with IP protection before. There will also be time at the end for participants to discuss any burning questions they might have with a friendly IP lawyer, and of course we can pick up any questions we don’t have time for at the networking afterwards.

Aaron and Laura said “GAMAYO is an incredible showcase of the video games talent across Yorkshire, and we can’t wait to be there again this year together with our brilliant colleagues from Lewis Silkin’s Interactive Entertainment legal team. We’re really excited to be hosting the IP and open source roundtable, and to be sharing our thoughts about some lesser-known aspects of video game IP protection. We look forward to seeing old and new faces at the fantastic Tileyard North.”

Over 300 developers are set to attend the GaMaYo event with 25 new games on show at Tileyard North on 23rd May. GaMaYo and Game Republic members get free tickets to the event. If you would like to join the network click here
