Respected and loved games industry luminary Nick Ferguson sadly passed away on Sunday 8th October 2023. Nick was a good friend of Game Republic and a regular at our events (see photo from November 2019), attending, meeting developers and speaking while working in his role of business development at AWS and Amazon Games, Google Cloud and most recently as a director at Xbox.
More than that, Nick was just a lovely man, funny and great company – someone you would look forward to seeing at industry events. Nick was truly passionate about games – he would often pop up on Twitter, Facebook and other social media to join in conversations about retro collecting, Nintendo games, playing Steam Deck, Star Wars, cult films and programming Net Yaroze on PlayStation (how Nick got started), to mention just a few of his passions.
Nick was even featured as a face-captured character in the XBLA remake of Perfect Dark on Xbox and he regularly posted his favourite games, including this list:

Best Game: Super Mario Galaxy
Nick’s passing was a great shock and he will be missed hugely. All our love and support go to his wife and two daughters at this difficult time.
