Game Republic

Merry Christmas from Game Republic!

game republic logoWell, it’s nearly Christmas and the end of another year for Game Republic and its Yorkshire and North of England members.

We’ve seen some great highlights for our members: Boneloaf having great promotional success with their game Gang Beasts and getting signed by US developer/publisher DoubleFine; Sumo Digital releasing the fantastic games Forza Horizon 2 on Xbox 360 and LittleBigPlanet 3 on PlayStation 4; Revolution continuing their success with the finished version of Broken Sword 5: The Serpent’s Curse; Red Kite Games releasing the fantastic charity title Firefly Runner; the University of York launching the pioneering NEMOG and IGGI initiatives; Distinctive Developments hitting the Top 10 App Store chart with Rugby Nations; Team17 launching a fantastic new IP Flockers and continuing with their global Worms smash hit; FormerDroid having a huge hit with their first major game Splemy – the list goes on and on!

As for Game Republic, we’ve hosted business networking events in the region with Sony, Microsoft, Koch Media, NVIDIA, Autodesk, Unity, Bluegfx, Jigsaw24, Nintendo, The Yogscast, Oculus VR and more, as well as hosting our seventh GR Student Showcase, which has found placements and full-time jobs for dozens of graduates. GR has also produced Mock Reviews for many of our companies to help with their development and marketing, introduced companies personally to platform-holders, helped developers receive funding for events such as GDC, linked companies up with VCs and games investors, helped games developers with PR and marketing and liaised directly with the government and government agencies such as UKTI to promote the industry in Yorkshire and the North.

We’re tremendously proud of the games companies, universities/colleges and affiliated businesses we represent and want to thank them all again for their amazing support in 2014. Game Republic is completely privately funded and without that, we couldn’t run this network – in fact, the only paid-for, professional regional games network in the UK. Game Republic begins its 12th year in 2015 and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for this amazing industry – have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
