Revolution Software has just finished another Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign successfully raising more than half-a-million pounds for a “Reforged” edition of its classic adventure game Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars. The York-based game developer ran the campaign for a month and managed to attract 4,948 backers of the project raising a total of £618,626 to give the 1996 title a beautiful brush-up with 4K visuals as well as unique collectables including an art book, Templar key ring and vinyl record.
Charles Cecil, Founder and CEO Revolution Software said, “as a York-based indie developer/publisher, Revolution needs to innovate in funding ongoing projects. The success of our Kickstarter campaign for Broken Sword: Reforged, which raised just over £600K, is testament to what can be achieved with a loyal and passionate community. Fans talk about playing Broken Sword over three generations: with their parents, and now with their children. As they point out, this enhanced Reforged version will ensure the game is also played by future generations to come.”
Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars is a point-and-click puzzle game featuring the two main characters of American tourist George Stobbart and Parisian photo-journalist Nico Collard stumbling into a gripping globe-trotting adventure featuring an ancient terrifying conspiracy.
This is the second time Revolution has raised funds for development using Kickstarter, with the first campaign in 2012 raising $771,561 for its newest Broken Sword adventure The Serpent’s Curse. The new Reforged edition of Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars is estimated to release worldwide in November 2024 – more info on the Revolution Software website.
