The countdown has begun for the first ever Yorkshire Games Festival at the National Media Museum in Bradford.
The festival which runs from 9-13th November has been developed in partnership with Game Republic and features an impressive line-up including John Romero (co-creator of Doom & Quake), Brenda Romero, Rhianna Pratchett, Warren Spector, Gary Napper from Supermassive Games, talks from Creative Assembly, Sumo Digital, Team17 and Revolution Software as well as workshops with GR members including writer Steve Ince and game designer Fee Stewart at Bradford College. There will also be a book signing from Keith Stuart from The Guardian, in additional to panels hosted at the festival with fellow journalist Jordan Erica Webber, plus a special Edge Magazine on-stage interview with John Romero. Many events have sold out – but it is worth checking the website to check if spaces are available over next few days and getting a pass to the festival.
The festival will also include a full weekend of activities suitable for all ages including a Nintendo Zone with some guest appearances by Pokémon, a University of Bradford game jam, a chance to build the National Media Museum in Minecraft and our newest Educational Partner Bradford College and The Northern School of Creative Industries will be holding a Creative Crunch for 14-19 year olds. For anyone aspiring to be a Youtuber, there is also guide to how to be an entertainment star presented by Yogscast with a live play of GR member Boneloaf’s game Gang Beasts.
For those interested in the games industry in the region, there is also a major Yorkshire Games Showcase, sponsored by the BFI Yorkshire Screen Hub which will feature games from studios including Team17 (showing Worms: WMD), Sumo Digital (demonstrating the as-yet-unreleased game Snake Pass) and Dumpling Design (demo-ing their action racer Dashy Crashy Turbo) as well as retro games and more.
Come along and support the Yorkshire Games Festival, and show the potential we have in the region to host future games events and highlight the great games development talent we have in the North!
Amidst all of the festival fun, we are hosting an extra special and exclusive Game Republic dinner on 10th November, sponsored by Red Kite Games, Escape Technology and HP which will include speakers from the festival. The dinner is only open to members of the GR network and the link to book is here – you will need your password.
