Develop is next week! Game Republic’s Jackie Mulligan and Jamie Sefton will be there, Jackie will be on a panel on 8th July and on 9th July, Game Republic will be hosting a Publisher Breakfast with Erik Mogensen from Wizards of the Coast, heads of studios and publishers Yogscast Games, Cast Iron Games, Team17, PQube and partners Red Kite Games and Xsolla.
There are loads of companies and amazing people from the Game Republic network coming down to Develop Brighton including Xsolla, Sumo Digital, Cooperative Innovations, Red Kite Games, Rebellion, GG Insurance, Revolution, Lewis Silkin, Team17, Johnston Carmichael, Backslash Audio, IGGI, Plus Accounting, Retroburn, Eaton Smith, Pitstop Productions, Elaine Dowman, JP and so many more. We asked people going to Develop to share some tips on making the most of the event – here is what they said….
Jackie Mulligan from Game Republic says “Remember that this is a chance to meet new people, so don’t just stick with familiar faces and don’t just look at the name badges companies or job titles, the wonderful thing about the games industry is that the people are well connected and multi-faceted, so you never know where a new conversation can lead, and what you might learn or be able to help someone with.”
Adam Phillips from Xsolla says “You’ll meet many interesting people, and talk about many amazing things. But be sure to take enough breaks and write detailed meeting notes to remember what to follow up on!”

Chris Taylor and Sam Crich from Eaton Smith (Eaton Smith LLP being shortlisted in the MVC Develop Awards for Service Partner of the Year) will be coming along to Develop. Chris says “My personal top tip from last year would be “don’t forget to eat something because breakfast only is not enough”. However, he agrees with Jackie “Don’t be afraid of speaking to people you haven’t met before – we’re all there to meet new people and to see what opportunities might come out of attending. You may be or have exactly what someone is looking for. Speaking to people who are outside of your usual circles is a good thing.”
“Know what you came to do at Develop, but leave room for detours! Sometimes the best outcomes from networking arrive between meetings and moments of relaxing with folks.” Nareice Wint, Miami Avalon

Andrew Coggan Back Slash Audio “my tip would be to book some meetings and catch-ups, but also leave time to wander without a set plan to allow for conversations to happen completely by chance”
Andy Coley of Game Studio Training reminds us that “Getting about takes time – get the Beryl Bikes app and use these to get about town quickly. There is a rank opposite the metropole and it’s a quick way to bomb about town for those meetings and events… Ride responsibility of course!”
Paige Grant from Pitstop Productions finally gives us a life saver of a tip “My top tip for Develop is one surrounding meetings. I find myself arranging meetings via different platforms: LinkedIn, Meet to Match, Emails, Discord, Calendly, the list goes on! So, my top tip is to get them all into once place, and make sure that’s accessible from your phone. For me, my outlook calendar is my go-to. All my meetings are in one place with the locations and contact numbers of the person I’m meeting. It’s saved my life so many times!”
And finally Jamie from Game Republic says “hopefully you would have already booked most of your meetings – try and leave time for those accidental meet ups around the conference, the bar, the lobby and at events. It is sometimes those accidental serendipidous meetings that can be the most beneficial! And don’t forget to unwind too, get fresh air, and make time for a catch up with friends”
