Budget Analysis for Game Developers

This week was Budget Week and whilst there were some elements that will better support our economy and society,  it was disappointing in terms of games industry support, Andrew McMillan’s from Game Republic’s Affiliate Member Johnston Carmichael Chartered Accountant assessment is that

“For the games industry specifically, the lack of any dedicated measure is particularly disappointing. This is a sector characterised by high upfront investment, significant development risk and intense international competition for both talent and capital. Internal industry research also identifies high entry costs as a  barrier for games start-ups, with existing government support such as creative industries tax reliefs helping reduce development costs and support cash flow. Against that background, it feels like a missed opportunity that there was nothing specifically aimed at supporting games businesses to start, scale and invest in the UK.”
