Game Republic will be hosting games legends John Romero (godfather of the first person shooter) and maker of Doom, Quake and Wolfenstein 3D, BAFTA award-winning game designer Brenda Romero known best for her work on Wizardry, Ghost Recon and Dungeons & Dragons franchises as well as John Robertson’s The Dark Room on 19th March at WX Wakefield.
The event aptly titled “Dark and Doomy” will include an afternoon event for game developers and creatives from 4pm that will include networking and a fireside chat with the Romeros. Later, the public event will start at 6.30pm where people will get the opportunity to meet the game legends as well as get signed exclusive books and merch and enjoy some outrageous game-themed comedy. People will also be able to play Doom-inspired games and meet the developers during both events.
MD of Game Republic Jamie Sefton says “I am really excited that we are bringing legends from games, a legendary game comedy show and new Doom inspired games together for an afternoon of insights for game developers and creative businesses and a public event too which will really celebrate games past, present and future.”

John Romero is considered to be the “father of first-person shooters” having led the design and contributed to the programming and audio design of the iconic and genre-defining games Wolfenstein 3D, DOOM, Quake, Heretic and Hexen, and his products have won well over 100 awards. His memoir DOOM Guy was launched in July 2023 to critical acclaim. Brenda Romero is a BAFTA award-winning game designer, artist and Fulbright recipient. She has worked on over 50 games, including seminal titles in the Wizardry, Ghost Recon and Dungeons & Dragons franchises.
