Game Republic has welcomed a report showing the impact of the work by XR Stories and Screen Industries Growth Network (SIGN). The results and impact of the work being led by the organisations in York are detailed an end of project report highlighting the economic, social and cultural impact of the projects across the creative industries in Yorkshire and the Humber.
Dr Jackie Mulligan, Co-Director of Game Republic said “This report highlights the fantastic outcomes that can emerge when academic and industry collaborate. Additional revenue of £6.6m and over 500 new or safeguarded jobs are terrific outcomes in what has been a turbulent few years for the UK economy. The work and support we gained from SIGN as a network was very valuable to us and many companies and creative industries have benefited from the support over the last 5 years. It was a pleasure to interview John Rose Adams earlier on in the year to learn more about the great work going on at XR Stories.”
From research and development funding, technical resources and expertise, to training, internships and bursaries, XR Stories and SIGN have enabled businesses to grow and innovate, and individuals to gain new skills and confidence to progress their careers. Game Republic benefited from SIGN funding which supported improvements to its GaMaYo events around diversity and inclusivity research.
Current funding for SIGN will come to an end on 31 December but online training resources, research reports and industry briefings will remain available on the SIGN website.
XR Stories is already entering a new phase that will leverage the pioneering R&D, workflows and relationships established over the last five years as a University of York and AHRC Creative Industries Cluster partner.
As lead for the XR Network+ project, XR Stories is working with five university partners from across the UK to establish a ten-year research agenda for virtual production, supporting growth and facilitating collaboration between academia and industry on a national scale.
