Tips for pitching to investors

Ahead of the event we asked Gina Jackson to share three top tips about securing investment for games. Here’s what she told us….

a. Prep yourself for all the questions, funders want to know your idea is well considered, practice pitching to friends and get them to ask you all the questions (or log onto Pitchify for free to discover a useful and detailed checklist developed with publishers and investors)

b.    Ask funders what they are looking for, too many people jump in and just pitch, maybe your game is the wrong budget or audience for the Publisher but maybe there is something you do have or know that is right. Bombarding funders with pitches that wouldn’t suit them just takes all their brain space and they aren’t going to sign something that doesn’t work for them. That’s what we do in Pitchify.

c.    Make life easy, put you email address, pronouns, website on the pitch. Every publisher has a different game analysis and greenlight process so your email and the pitch materials will often be separated, if the finance team or the marketing team need more information and it’s accessible on your website or they can drop you a mail, or look at your profile on Pitchify then do that. With 300 to 500 pitches passed over for each one signed they don’t have time to search for information if it’s not there, respect their time too.
You will be able to get more tips about pitching on the day of the event. If you need tips sooner than that, there is a Game Republic webinar with Johnston Carmichael including insights from UK Games Fund on 8th May.
