A cracking line-up of speakers and exhibitors will be gathering for Game Republic’s September event in collaboration with Barclays Games & Creative and XR Stories – The event New Creative Technologies will look at the latest innovations in creative tech for games, film and TV. The event takes place from 2pm on 19th September and includes talks, panels and demos at Kommune in Sheffield, followed by drinks and networking at the National Videogame Museum and is FREE for Game Republic members.
Technology in Games, Film and TV Production
The event is designed for those working in game development, film or TV production, providing the latest insights on new technologies including XR (virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality), virtual production, AI and the trends and innovations that are shaping immersive and engaging experiences for audiences worldwide.
MD of Game Republic Jamie Sefton explains “Following the collaborative event we hosted in York last year on XR and Virtual Production, we decided to do another event, this time looking more widely at new and emerging tech and its applications. The collaboration with XR Stories and Barclays Games and Creative means we can also bring together people working in film, tv and games and other sectors so there will be some really good content and networking opportunities here for our Game Republic members and other sectors looking to collaborate and build new experiences or tech.”

Caroline Cooper-Charles, Chief Executive of Screen Yorkshire in conversation with Barry Ryan, Head of Production, Ink Factory on his incredible body of work while previously at Warp Films including smash hit musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, Andy Nyman & Jeremy Dyson’s Ghost Stories and Chris Morris’s BAFTA winning first short My Wrongs 8245-8249 and Four Lions, and Tyrannosaur for Warp X, as well as the use of technology in film-making and the current and future landscape for film production in the UK.
Ashley Day, Head of Developer Relations, Team17 discussing his career with Jamie Sefton, Managing Director at Game Republic, including being deputy editor of gamesTM, launching the Wii U and Switch at Nintendo UK and now helping indie developers make their dream games a reality at Team17 – plus how Team17 is handling a fast-changing global market, using new technologies and discovering new games.
Judi Alston, Creative Director and CEO, Dreaming Methods on using technology to tell stories for social change, with their XR Stories-funded demo The Pit Camp about the 40 th anniversary of the Miners Strike, and the homelessness project Streets of Change.
Jed Ashforth, CEO of Realised Realities was instrumental at Sony in bringing PlayStation VR and VR2 to life and joins the event to talk about the present and future of XR.
Speakers from Johnston Carmichael and Lewis Silkin in conversation about making sure you access R&D tax credits for innovation, as well as protect your new IP and technology in a very competitive market.
Plus speakers and talks about AI, virtual production and more that will be announced nearer the time.
There will also be a showcase of innovative tech companies there too including Beam XR and Reflex Arc and a host of brand new companies showing fantastic new games from the Game Republic/York & North Yorkshire Combined Authority Games Studio Start-Up Bootcamp.
