Experts to join GaMaYo Roundtables

Over 300 game developers have registered so far for GaMaYo which will be taking place at brand new venue WX in the centre of Wakefield. The event is being managed by Game Republic with support from their Official Partners Red Kite GamesBarclays Games and Creative and Escape Technology. The event will also see the winners of the Game Republic Awards revealed including Best Indie Game Made in The North which is currently open for a public vote.

The event on 21st November will include over 35 new game demos, a retro arcade, a Halo ring of Xbox consoles in the spectacular new space, before it officially opens to the public. The event which has been sponsored by WX, Plus AccountingMasteredEaton Smith SolicitorsYogscast Games and Other Things agency is set to be the biggest yet. Alongside networking and a chance to play games (old and new), the event will also include a series of 20 minute roundtables for indie game developers with expert advice available. The roundtables proved to be a popular feature at the GaMaYo in May, so this time, there will be even more choice. You will be able to attend 3 of the roundtables below and can choose which one at the event.

The roundtables are designed to provide an overview with experts staying for the duration of the event to continue the conversation. Chris Taylor and Sam Crich from Eaton Smith Solicitors will cover many topics on their roundtable including Successfully securing IP – owning it from start to finish. Hitting milestones, Contracting globally – things to think about, Avoiding rotten Easter Eggs and Co-Development – playing nicely with other people

Sam Baldwin from Plus Accounting will be leading an open discussion designed to help developers at every stage of their journey on his table Starting Strong: Financial Tips for Game Developers & Studios (Ask Me Anything).
He explains “Whether you’re starting out, taking on employees, working with freelancers, managing overseas workers and income, or focusing on cashflow reporting and investment, we’re here to provide guidance. We’ll also cover key topics like Video Games Tax Relief (VGTR), the Video Games Export Certificate (VGEC), and navigating the financial complexities of growing a game studio. Game Republic members will be able to attend a special VIP event from 4pm at WX, in a space that will give a raised view of the new venue before the event starts. This will also provide a unique networking opportunity to meet some of the many special guests attending the event which is set to be the biggest indie game dev gathering in The North in 2024.
