Thursday 27th April 2017 was the date for the second #gamedevday, featuring a Game Republic event in the afternoon and GaMaYo (Game Makers Yorkshire) in the evening, both supported by Autodesk and Escape Technology – and was our biggest event yet, with more than 350 attendees as part of the Leeds International Festival.
Game Republic in the afternoon at Futurelabs featured talks from Sony PlayStation VR on “The Journey So Far” including what the company is looking for now in VR games and experiences (“innovation” and “the next big thing”) and a presentation from York developer Recluse Industries, plus the BFI on the cultural test for Games Tax Relief. We also heard from Yogscast about “influencing the influencers” of YouTube and Twitch, and from the day’s Headline Sponsor Amazon Appstore about marketing strategies for mobile games developers.
In the evening was the GaMaYo networking event, which featured more than 300 developers from Yorkshire, the North West, and North East of England, with more than 20 new games on-show, including the new title from Leeds-based Laser Dog Games, which won the Amazon Appstore competition for Best Mobile Game on the night.
GaMaYo also featured many Game Republic games developers including Sumo Digital, Red Kite Games, Spherical Games and Team17, and also raised money for games charity Special Effect. Huge thanks to all our speakers, our supporters Autodesk and Escape Technology, the Leeds International Festival and our Headline Sponsor Amazon Appstore. The next Game Republic event will be the yearly GR Student Showcase on 8th June at the University of Leeds.
