On Tuesday 28th June, Game Republic held its first Summer Arcade Party, partnered with Microsoft and sponsored by Insight Studios Ltd, Escape Technology and Autodesk.
The event, held at Dock29 in Leeds, began with talks from Microsoft, Garbutt & Elliott, Autodesk and Flix Interactive, then Game Republic members were also joined by a number of GaMaYo network members to enjoy drinks, street food and arcade machines provided by Replay Events.
Classic arcade machines included Pac-Man, Pole Position, Gorf, Donkey Kong (a very rare red machine that was converted from a RadarScope cabinet), Tempest, Space Invaders and Defender. Microsoft also gave an Xbox One away as a prize to Adam Boyne from GR member BetaJester, plus GR and GMY members raised a fantastic £170 for the chosen event charity SpecialEffect!
Nick Streeter from SpecialEffect said, “Huge thanks to all who attended the Game Republic Summer Arcade Party and raised a fantastic £170 for SpecialEffect. As the only charity of our type in the UK demand is growing all the time as more people with disabilities wanting to experience the joy of gaming. We work across the Game Republic region and look forward to sharing stories with the network about the difference your support is making.”
