GR doesn’t do annual reports, but at this time of year, we like to reflect on the last 12 months. It’s been a challenging year for the games industry but we have done all we can to make it a better one. Thanks to our members, speakers, sponsors, supporters, followers and our Official Partners Red Kite Games, Barclays Games and Escape Technology for their support in 2024.
Here are our highlights in numbers
- 21 GR events taking place in York, Sheffield, Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield, Staffordshire, London and online
- Supported over 1800 game devs across The North to connect
- 6 webinars on AI, Valve / Steam, marketing, finance and tax, and global talent and visas to work internationally
- Made 200+ introductions for GR member studios
- Set up 332 international meetings
- Set up 2 new Bluesky accounts
- Ran 6 business insight and networking events in 6 cities
- Produced 12 news /press stories and features in regional, national and industry media
- Hosted 24 roundtables on pitching, finance, investment, marketing, IP, codev, publishing, platforms, media, start-up, leadership, public funding, careers, budget demos, production pipelines and networking
- 4 panels about the games industry at industry events in Brighton, Liverpool, Leeds and Dublin on investment, narrative design and managing studios in turbulent times
- Attended and got demo spots at 2 Barclays Frenzy events in London and Glasgow
- A DBT trade mission to GDC and a Valve meeting for GR members at Gamescom
- 2 Discord events on hobbyist to publishing and community management
- 3 graduate bootcamps resulting in new jobs secured and new studios setting up including World 1-1 Studios, Maximalist Ltd, Snowglobe Interactive, Shotdash, Otterweave Games Studio to name a few
- Supported 11 industry conferences, providing membership exclusive discounts
- Helped 51 student teams from 14 universities and colleges attend the biggest ever Student Showcases
- Brought 80+ new game demos to our events
- 100 studios and individuals nominated in our Game Republic Awards
- 16 indie games nominated for Best Game in The North
- 1 summer party with 3 floors of arcade machines
- Attended 4 Award events including the BAFTA Games Awards
- Presented 12 Game Republic Awards to Northern games companies, individuals and Educational Partners
- Attended one Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace
- 5 meetings with MPs and Mayors
- £1300 for charities including SpecialEffect, Safe in our World at GR events
