In just over 2 weeks over 400 game developers, studio heads, publishers and platform-holders will gather together to enjoy an evening of networking, roundtables, game demos with over 60 new games on show and the award-winners for the Game Republic Awards will be revealed in a short and sweet presentation. The event is being sponsored by HP and AMD with Escape Technology and Plus Accounting and is supported by Game Republic’s Official Partners Red Kite Games, Xsolla and Barclays Games and Creative.
Most Inspiring Games Courses
Every year, one of the most popular categories is Inspiring Course Leader which this year is being sponsored by Double Eleven. For many at WX on 13th November, now working in the games industry, running studios and making games, they will have a tutor to thank for setting them on the road. Last year Guardian journalist and writer Keith Stuart spoke eloquently about the role of course leaders in inspiring young people to achieve.
Dr Jackie Mulligan, Development Director at Game Republic highlights “It is easy to focus on new games and global successes for the games industry. Behind those titles are studios full of people who were at one time or another inspired by teachers and tutors. We must never underestimate the impact of these educators on where we are now and the future. I love that this award celebrates the often unsung heroes that inspire generations of developers.”
Best Course Leaders in Games
Once again this year there are a stellar line-up of tutors and course leaders in the spotlight for the Inspiring Course Leader Award sponsored by Double Eleven. We are always impressed with the time students and former students put into these nominations. This year many have mentioned how much they have felt encouraged and nurtured to be creative, mentored and coached and also how much compassion and support tutors and course leaders have provided. We have created a cloud of just some of the words that have come through with just some of the names of nominees. Below, here are just a few examples of the kinds of statements being made…
“the most phenomenal tutor and mentor I could have ever asked for — he’s brought the best out of me, and encouraged me to go even further beyond that. His amazing ability and intelligence as a tutor doesn’t end at the theoretical and technical levels either, but also extends to emotional, compassionate intelligence too.”
“gone above and beyond to help everybody in the class with whatever problems they are struggling with.”
“puts creativity at the heart of what we do in class and outside of it, and allows us near total creative freedom in our process, which- in this year especially- has allowed us to create games that are wide ranging in genre and scope, yet every single one offers something completely new”
All will be revealed on 13th November, but every nominee should be incredibly proud that their work leaves a lasting legacy on those they teach.
