As the sun shone, networking was breezy at GaMaYo on 21st May. Over 380 game developers, publishers, platform-holders, investors, educators, service providers showed up for the event which saw 47 new games being shown off and a demo of Nex Playground at the event as well as over £1000 raised for Safe In Our World. The event formed part of the Game Republic events programme supported by Official Partners Red Kite Games, Xsolla and Double Eleven.
The event was sponsored by Lenovo, Intel, Escape Technology, Kudos Games, Plus Accounting with strategic partnership provided by Steel City Interactive.
On the same day as GaMaYo, Game Republic’s Games Festival hit the front page on Steam with over 100 games featured from members of Game Republic and GaMaYo, several who showcased at the event. The festival runs until 3rd June.
Publishing Tips, Pitching, QA, finance and legal advice and a chance to play on Nex Playground
Roundtables were busy with experts sharing their insights with top financial advice from Plus Accounting, legal advice from Eaton Smith Solicitors, publishing opportunities with Silver Lining Interactive, Devolver Digital and Curve Games, insights into markets in China from publisher KinePhantom, pitching advice from Pitchify QA advice from Kudos Games and insights and a chance to try out Nex Playground. In addition Damos games shared highlights of working on Playdate, Machinefun shared tips on simplifying designs, Stuffed Crust talked about using AI Code tools, Devroom Vantasia offered insights on art design and Infinity27 shared tips on getting hired.
Over £1000 raised for Safe in our World
GaMaYo attendees were keen to buy raffle tickets to support mental health charity Safe in Our World with over £1000 donated on the night with prizes including a Lego Mariokart donated by Cast Iron Games, a brand new hot off the press Nex Playground and games including Outbound and Absolum donated by publisher Silver Lining Interactive.
Game developers from the North East
The event included a significant contingent of game developers from the North East of England who supported by coach sponsors Johnston Carmichael, Double Eleven and Acid Gamelabs – thanks to this, game developers were able to attend and stay late at the event thanks to the efforts of coach organiser Olly Bennett, GameBridge organiser and head of Carboard Sword.
New games grab attention from publishers, game devs and Poopernoodle
Games showcased at GaMaYo drew lots of attention from developers, publishers and twitch streamer, tiktok, instagram and content creator Poopernoodle who dropped by and shared posts to her more than 1 million followers.
