Over 150 game developers gathered at Leeds Arcade Club for the annual and ever popular Game Republic Summer Arcade Party. The event which has grown every year also featured a special screening of England playing DR Congo which in spite of the terrible start, resulted in a glorious (and loud) victory. The party which was sponsored by Kudos Games featured 3 floors of iconic arcade machines, food, drink, networking and the World Cup match – providing an extra level of excitement. A raffle took place for GamesAid during the event and raised £437. The winners winning a host of prizes were Reanne Weavill, Ben Hinchliffe, Martin Caine, Rebecca Gilray, Ash Parkhouse-Pemberton and Kieran McMaster.
Jamie Sefton noted “It was fantastic to see all our members enjoying watching the football, playing games and seeing some new faces coming along too. The party is always a great event and gives us a chance to give all of our members some well-deserved time off to enjoy playing games rather than making them! Of course, having England win the match was a very well appreciated added bonus.”
Teams from member studios alongside affiliates and educators came together to enjoy videogames ranging from retro classics like Pac-Man and Donkey Kong to new VR experiences. The event was supported by Official Partners Red Kite Games, Xsolla, Double Eleven and Strategic Partner Steel City Interactive.
