Game Republic has announced a partnership with the Scottish Game Developers Association (SGDA) for GaMaYo on 13th November that will be taking place at WX in Wakefield. The event will see 10 Scottish games studios join more than 50 other game studios for a total of more than 60 games on-show – alongside networking, meeting experts at roundtables and the reveal of the Game Republic Awards. Both organisations hope that this will be the start of positive collaborations to bring benefits to studios from across The North, Scotland and the UK.
Over 450 attendees from businesses including game studios, developers, publishers, platform-holders and investors have registered for the event so far which Jamie Sefton Managing Director of Game Republic believes will be the biggest event yet. GaMaYo is a twice-yearly event that has been running for over ten years attracting big publishers, investors and platform-holders to attend each year. In the last 12 months, several games have been signed from appearances at the event.
Jamie explains “Hosting the event at WX has given us significant scope to increase the number of attendees and studios that can show off their games. This event is very much focused on business, it’s designed to be a supportive environment, which creates opportunities for studios and enhances collaboration. As the largest games industry network in The North, we are thrilled to be working with the SGDA in Scotland, an association similar to ours in its desire to support studios and developers to connect with each other and decision-makers in the industry.”
GaMaYo is set to include roundtables full of free advice for developers from start-ups to well established studios on publishing including Yogscast Games, Devolver, on technology with HP, AMD, Escape Technology and GameMaker, on platforms with Epic and ID@Xbox, on legal advice from Eaton Smith Solicitors, on financial advice from Plus Accounting and business advice from Parker Consulting and business and tech advice from Xsolla. The event forms part of the Game Republic events programme which is supported by Official Partners Red Kite Games, Barclays Games and Creative and Xsolla.
Cian Roche, SGDA General Manager, says “Creative communities thrive when they can learn from and support one another. It’s a privilege to have partnered with Game Republic to bring these talented groups of developers together where they can make new connections, exchange ideas, and inspire one another. Supporting our respective communities is a mission both the SDGA and Game Republic are entirely committed to, and we’re sure this is only the first of many more collaborations to come.”
The Scottish studios will be travelling down to the event on 13th November, with games being showcased to include Crackernuts from Hairy Heart Games, an expanded version of The Zhukov Line from Fish Tin Studios, and a new as-yet unannounced game from Ant Workshop.
