On Wednesday 12th February 2025, Game Republic held its Speakers Reception and Dinner at the Yorkshire Games Festival in partnership with the National Science and Media Museum in Bradford and supported by our Official Partners Red Kite Games and Barclays Games & Creative.
The event began with an audience of game developers and companies from the Game Republic network including Revolution Software, Radical Forge and Skyhook Games enjoying an exclusive Fireside Chat featuring Coal Supper, the studio that created the brilliantly funny, surreal Yorkshire comedy game Thank Goodness You’re Here! Will Todd and James Carbutt, who grew up together in Barnsley, created the game and drew on their experiences of living in Yorkshire, as well as bringing in their love of seaside postcard humour and the silly comedy of Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer and shows like Adventure Time. We’ll have a full feature on the Fireside Chat with more inside knowledge and anecdotes on the making of the game very soon.

Afterwards, guest speakers from the festival, as well as Game Republic members, enjoyed drinks in the Pictureville bar, and the Director of the National Science and Media Museum, Jo Quinton-Tulloch, welcomed everybody to the festival and celebrated the first day of Game Talks which featured presentations including Kyle Rowley, Game Director of the superb horror game Alan Wake II at Remedy and Ricky Haggett and Richard Hogg from Hollow Ponds, creators of the brilliant cult game Hohokum and the recent hit Flock.
The attendees then made a short journey to the nearby My Lahore restaurant where they enjoyed a fantastic curry and an opportunity to network and find out more from other Yorkshire Games Festival speakers including Claire Morwood, designer and creator of the music video game Asterism and Kitt Byrne, artist and designer of the gorgeous Botany Manor.

The Yorkshire Games Festival continues at the museum for another week with more Game Talks from industry, plus school and college workshops and family days with dozens of Northern games companies showcasing their games. For those that can’t make it, there is also a Yorkshire Games Festival Steam Event, created by Game Republic and the festival, featuring games by numerous Yorkshire and Northern studios and Game Republic members, with some major discounts, such as 20% off Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars – Reforged.
