Speakers from Larian Studios acclaimed Baldur’s Gate, Square Enix, Newfangled Games, Radical Forge, Sad Owl Studios and Void Interactive will be joining the Yorkshire Games Festival next month which runs from 7-10 March. As always, the Yorkshire Games Festival will be launched with the Game Republic Speakers Reception and Dinner. This year the event will be held at Sunbridge Wells, a fabulously quirky underground tunnel complex in Bradford’s city centre. The Dinner is being sponsored by Affiliate members Johnston Carmicheal and the event forms part of Game Republic’s event programme for 2024 supported by Official Partners Barclays, Red Kite Games and Escape Technology.
Jamie Sefton MD of Game Republic said “This is a fantastic line up of speakers for 2024 and kudos to National Science and Media Museum for managing to get this set up. The festival is later than normal this year, but we are delighted that in spite of the museum being closed for a major renovation, the Yorkshire Games Festival is very much open.”
Game Republic members will get discounts on the YGF passes to gain access to the talks and activities and special invites have been sent to members with a code to book the official reception and 3 course Speakers dinner
Games Funding Opportunities from BFI
Just before the reception, Game Republic members are also being invited to join a BFI Round Table – The BFI roundtable event will feature Chris Filip, International Business Development Fund Manager at the BFI, presenting about the upcoming funding round for the UK Global Screen Fund. The UKGSF has funded many projects by games companies, many in the region, including Cooperative Innovations, Huey Games and Revolution Software. Anna Mansi, Director of Video Games & Certification at the BFI, will also be attending to discuss the cultural test for the new Video Games Expenditure Credit (VGEC) where games companies can receive a crucial 25.5% tax relief on games development. Johnston Carmichael will be joining the roundtable to share their expertise on VGEC and R&D Tax Credits.
Andrew McMillan, Tax Partner at Johnston Carmichael comments ‘We are delighted to be supporting the upcoming Game Republic Speakers Dinner as part of the Yorkshire Games Festival. It has been brilliant to see the amazing talent and incredible games IP being produced in the North of England and the buzz at recent Game Republic events that we have attended has been fantastic. I’m looking forward to joining the brilliant team at the BFI to discuss the recent legislative changes to video games tax relief and other tax relief opportunities available to innovative companies’
