Andrew Crawshaw, Director of Thunkd, founder of GaMaYo, Leeds Games Toast and well-regarded supporter of indie games development has won Game Republic’s Community Player Award sponsored by Tileyard North. Andrew was praised for being ia developer legend having worked on classic games such as Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, also recognised as the founder of the largest free games network in the UK – GaMaYo – and then going on to set up one of the most popular and longest running pub meet-ups with Leeds Games Toast! Andrew was described as passionate about game developers and always ready to help and contribute to skills roundtables, mentoring programmes and more – and has given advice and mentoring to dozens of game studios.
Katie Hopkins of Tileyard North said “Congratulations to Andrew Crawshaw for taking away the Community Player Award at the Game Republic Awards. From founding GaMaYo in 2011 and giving hundreds of developers the opportunity to connect and showcase their games, it’s clear to see this award will be very well received as Andrew has had such a positive impact on the game community. He was in great company in the nominations, with some fantastic individuals and organisations nominated in this category – and all deserve to be praised for their incredible work”
Jamie Sefton of Game Republic added “Andrew’s work to support indie developers is truly inspiring. It has been a privilege to carry on the legacy of his work with GaMaYo and we are delighted that he is continuing to support the industry with new networks like Leeds Games Toast as he has such passion for games and supporting new developers to get started and get out there. Andrew is incredibly generous with his time, his contacts and his knowledge of game development, and is such a friendly, approachable and kind person – he very much deserves the Community Player award!”
